What is LEED?

LEED certification simply put is the recognized standard around the United States and some other countries, for measuring building sustainability.  Through LEED certification both commercial and residential buildings can demonstrate their building project to be “green.”  The third party verification system certifies a building focused on metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Why is LEED certification beneficial?

Becoming LEED certified is proof to everyone you and your organization come in contact with that your building has achieved the set requirements of the third-party commissioning process.  It helps you stand out in your communities with a positive image that your organization is concerned with the environment and is taking an active role in helping preserve Earth’s precious resources.  Certification also allows buildings to take advantage of government grants and incentives.

How does LEED work?

LEED projects earn points through the system by satisfying certain criterion in specific green building categories.  Points are awarded in each of the six credit categories.  Those categories are:  Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation in Design.  The total number of points earned on a project determines if the project is Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Are Jayhawk’s products LEED certified?

No they are not.  While LEED only applies to the actual green building projects, Jayhawk’s products can contribute to points within the LEED certification system.  Jayhawk’s products have obtained the necessary documentation indicating how our unique products can gain points for LEED projects.  Our technical letter can be obtained by clicking the link below.
